Jail Time for Defrauding and Abusing Animals Through a Fake Animal Shelter in Aguadulce

The Almería Provincial Court has sentenced a woman to six years and nine months in prison for defrauding more than thirty people by operating a fake animal shelter and keeping dozens of dogs and cats in unsanitary conditions that led to the death of many puppies and kittens.

How the Fraud Was Carried Out

Between 2024 and early 2025, the defendant created multiple social media accounts pretending to represent animal rescue organizations. Through these accounts, she collected adoption fees ranging from 200 to 270 euros under the false promise of covering transport and veterinary costs.

In reality, the woman had no legal authorization to operate as a rescue center and used the funds for personal gain.

Animal Abuse and Neglect

The court found that animals were kept in extremely poor conditions, surrounded by waste and without proper medical care. Many puppies and kittens suffered from parvovirus or feline leukemia and died shortly after being placed in adoptive homes.

Despite veterinary warnings, the situation continued, causing further suffering and spreading disease.

Investigation and Legal Action

The investigation was led by the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard after a complaint by lawyer Raquel Sánchez on behalf of victims, along with reports from neighbors and emergency services.
